Frequently asked questions

What is the aim of World Agroforestry Centre’s internships?
Internships with the Centre enable students and other learners to work alongside our professional staff in the context of agroforestry-related research and development activities of mutual interest to both. In the context of formal education, this mostly deals with thesis research although short, intensive on-the-job training (skills) can also be considered.

Can I be assured of training opportunities at the Centre?
Individual learning opportunities need to be of interest both to Centre supervisors and learners. The Centre does not offer internships in areas outside its research and development mandate. For more information about the Centre’s work, refer to the About Us and Research sections of this website.

How are queries and applications handled?
All applications for internships and scholarships at World Agroforestry Centre Headquarters and within the East Africa are processed by the Global Training Unit. Attachments and fellowships at other locations are processed by the respective Regional Training Liaison staff.

Completed applications should be returned to the Training Officer, World Agroforestry Centre, P.O. Box 30677-00100, Nairobi, Kenya or email h.ochieng@cgiar.org

How long should I wait for a response?
The Centre has limited capacity to process the numerous applications it receives. The Training Unit will however try to acknowledge and respond to all applicants as soon as possible.

How do I get funding for my training?
The World Agroforestry Centre does not have funding to pay for individual learning. All interested learners need to make sure they are able to cover their own travel, accommodation, insurance and other living expense. In some cases limited operational expenses can be covered depending on the activity. Read more…
